in need of a makeover

Lately I have been playing with the idea of exterior remodeling for homes that I have come across that are lovely...but need a little help cosmetically. In fact, their sheer need of a facelift is probably why they have been on the market for as long as they have been.

This home for example is in a fabulous neighborhood with 1.0 acre lots, has a spectacular backyard, has potential everywhere inside, lots of room to grow as a family, and is priced oh so well....but the exterior is *yawn.*

I am thinking of painting the brick, adding some shutters, and giving that front entrance more presence...double doors with a over hang of some sorts.

But...I have no idea how to do this on a computer.

Anyone know who I could turn to? I would love to explore this home and show Mr. B a "vision" rather than me doodling all over a print out. Because I will be honest...I can't draw.

house hunters: can a house redefine your style?

As you know I am in love with the aspect of moving into a larger home upon graduation from pharmacy school. In my search..I came upon this one that might be perfect for my little family and my parents. It has 2 kitchens and lots of space...over +5000 sq feet of it and over an acre outside.

What I have thought about though with this house is that it really would not jive with a PB feel. It is more of a Jeff Lewis feel.

And let us not forget a fabulous Jeff Lewis kitchen

Between you and me....this is right up Mr. B's style. :)

I do think I would be daring in a home like this and go for a master bed like this:

 

I guess you could say I am a house whisperer....I just listen and see what the home wants. How about you? Is your style ever changed because of your love for the home?

I guess the most exciting aspect is we shall see what we end up with.

house hunters: a girl can dream {even on Tuesday}

I know I usually do this series on Friday, but I have plans ---- and they involve you. Can I tease a bit more? Just you wait...I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Look at this home...go on...look. I would have big plans if this were my home.

The pool alone...and the home is on a little over an acre...with a lake.

But...in all honesty, I would take it a step further and redo the exterior.

I definitely think this could be done...definitely. Right?

This may be a dream...but isn't it lovely?

house hunters: what i see

My dad and I have been checking out LOTS of home. What I find interesting is what I see when I walk into a space.

When walking into this kitchen..

I LOVE seeing the potential in homes. Now I only wish all of you could come along with me. Imagine what more we could envision together. This house below had me at hello....imagine what the home could become with me as the lady of the house.

house hunters: Old Louisville {again}

During Winter Break, I took advantage of a free afternoon and looked at 3 homes in Old Louisville. These homes would be in case our multi-generational home never came to be. I just wanted to share and get your thoughts....so many possibilities.

1236 South 6th Street

The staircase is breathtaking....I am just not a fan of the Master Suite...kinda odd.

1327 South 2nd Street

The kitchen here is UNBELIEVEABLE.

414 Belgravia Court

I have ALWAYS wanted to live on Belgravia...it is one of the only walking courtyards in Louisville. If only the house were bigger {I need another family or gathering room}..and as crazy as it sounds, I would "put pack" the 2nd story to increase the Master Suite. They took it out to create a 2 story living room.

So we shall see...it depends on so much. It depends on my employment, our family goals, and maybe even a new baby to be one day. We shall see, but I love to dream and have you dream along with me.

house hunters: 203 Maplewood Dr & the Oaks

IF....IF...we did not go the multi-generational house, I have my eye on a few homes and I saw this one not too long ago. It is located in "fairytale subdivision." No joke...all the homes have that appearance they belong in a storybook.

It is a double lot too....oh the ideas I have with this home are lovely.

Dad and I have another subdivision to check out.The homes are located in Lanesville, which is about a 20 minute drive from my house right now. I am not sure if the whole family would love that but, these homes are  have been on the market for quite some time. Plus they are neighbors...love a negotiation situation.

Tell me your thoughts...and keep in mind any kitchen of mine WILL be white or cream...or maybe even a shade of grey.

house hunters: Chapel Creek Subdivision & Versailles

Diamond in the rough...these homes are all diamonds awaiting to be polished. The subdivision is a lovely place. It is just not the NKOTB of subdivisions. What do you think?

It is quite nice there has been a MAJOR renovation of this property. I think I can fine tune it even more. But the bigger plus is the basement is unfinished. That is perfect for our special family needs.

Pool..unfinished basement..cul-de-sac. My interests have been peaked.

Ok.so the homes are a tad older. They are old enough to be dated well into the 80s, but they are still young enough to not be considered classic, vintage, or stately...but let me put it into perspective. All of these homes remind me of a home I once saw and how the owners transformed it into something more even more breathtaking.



Remember the Nester's Old Nest?

For the price of these homes not only could I do a renovation of Nester proportions, but I could also decorate to my heart's content with the dollars I save.

I figure if the Nester can do it...so can I.

PS Dad and I are seeing this home on Monday. It has been on the market for quite some time, with the price always dropping, and the owners are very motivated to sell {even lease to own}. Obviously the home speaks for itself. Its subdivision is amazing with its pool, clubhouse, and tennis courts...oh and it is HUGE and it is SPECTACULAR. :)

If the timing is right...you can get a huge home for the price becuase these homes are just not selling in my area. Might need to work on my million dollar idea a bit more. :)

house hunters: 1655 Cedarpointe Dr

So as some of you know I graduate in June {hopefully with employment before then} and one of our big hopes as a family is to buy a multi-generational home.

Dad and I have been on the search since before I even started pharmacy school. What started as a glimmer of an idea has evolved into a true dream.

We have looked at so many homes that I never got a chance to blog about each one. In fact, we saw 2 homes this past week.

House #1

We saw this one {which needs LOTS of work} - 2013 Spring Farm Dr.

House #2

We saw this one which is HUGE..it has 2 separate basements! - 1003 Plum Ridge Dr.

Both were nice...the last one had potential, but we are still in the hunt. Luckily my dad and I make an awesome team. Here is the next one we are eyeing.

We shall see. Friday nights have become house hunter night for me. I scope out what new home to explore either with my realtor or if I am lucky on Sunday at an open house.
