move in & love me

Our house went on the market less than 2 weeks ago, so I thought I would dive right in and inquire with no shame {maybe a dash of fear} in regards to ---- how do the pics look? Before you ask..yes, these are the realtor pictures. Yes, they are the general pics that may lack a tad bit of sparkle and character, but it is what we currently have online and what the public see.

I am playing with the idea of taking a few myself and see what emotions I can bring to the online page. Afterall being online is not the only key to a successful sale, but having another family truly fall in love with our home.

The front view: I am thinking of adding some black urns and flowers underneath the garage lanterns. Thoughts?

I am thinking of exploring giving my home its own website and fill it will light filled photos that take advantage of as many different perspectives as I can.

I just need people to walk thru the door. I think my home will take care of the rest.

I need your thoughts and feedback...I need your help to sell my home.

Cheers~

  1. Did your realtor mention anything about personal pictures? My SIL is a realtor, my cousin is a home stager, and every realtor we have had (3 homes sold) say the same thing. No personal photos, no more than 2 small appliances on the kitchen countertop preferably separated, limit the number of items on any given shelf, and have a vase of flowers (i.e. daisies) in the middle of the dining room table or on a table near the front door. Oh and having a candle that smells like baking bread or cookies is good. Hope this helps... However your home does look good! Very good in fact! Praying that it sells quickly. :) If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me and I will pass them on to my cousin and SIL or will answer any that I can.

    1. Thank you so much for the prayers Peggy! We will take every one of them. I will take all your advice to heart. I might swap out the pictures for scenes b/c I am trying to not have to patch all the holes I have created to make that gallery wall. My realtor was fine with them since they were all B&W as well as framed so well. I have an orchid in the foyer on the bookcase and have been contemplating on what to put on the dining room table that my cat will not destroy. Thank you for the advice and your email offer. I will no doubt take advantage of it.

      Cheers~

  2. I think you have a lovely home but the pictures look a bit cold to me.

I would add a bowl of lemons or oranges on the table. Some plants on the night stands....etc. Overall-some greenery inside would be great for the pictures. T=You could return them when you are done. In real life, you probably don't need them.

Outside , I would take the picture at a different time of day...there are weird shadows. And add something memorable to help buyers place your home..."i liked the one with the red door, with the picket fence, with the_________.

For the baby's room. Can you buy (and return) if needed a bright colored through for over the chair. There doesn't seem to be any focal point.

Overall, I would also turn off the chandeliers in the photos. Do you have alternate lighting or good daytime lighting?

I love how clean and well decorated your home is. I'm ready to move in!!!
Best of luck on selling your home!

    1. I agree about the "cold factor." I think light infused pics will enhance the whole feeling of the home. I do plan to take a pic of the house in the AM when light does not cast shadows..and I am still playing with the idea of the urns out front. As for Thurgood's room, I will keep my eye out for a throw. His room is so small that his bed takes up a big chunk and the picture never did take a snapshot of the octopus wall..aka my focal point. :) Oh..and GREAT thinking on the lights off. I don't know why she turned them on to begin with.

      Thank you soo much!!

  3. I love the idea of the urns and flowers outside. I also agree with Jana about "the house with" and a fruit bowl on the kitchen bar. I'm sure you already have a bowl and lemons/limes stay pretty forever!
The first living room pic almost looks like the chair is sitting on the hearth. A small scootch to the right would be perfect I think.
I think you've done a fabulous job decorating your home. It's beautiful and someone will fall in love with even with pictures of your family. I'm probably not the norm but I like to see pictures of other people's family... I make up my own little story about them. And... For the record, someone else's family pictures didn't deter us one bit from our new home!
Best of luck for a fast sale!

    1. I moved the chair over a smidge...I saw it too after you said something. Heck that chair moves all over the place with a little man. Gld you like the idea of the urns and flowers...I really think that will add some color and memory to the place. I hope this weather stays warm so I can plant away. I have a wire basket that ironically matches the chandy...we put bananas in it. Maybe it is time to make room for some lemons and limes. :)

Thanks girl for all your thoughts and help.

      Cheers~

  4. That is a very nice presentation. I would agree that it needs just something little with a punch of color--a vase of daffodils, a fruit bowl. I think the pictures are an exception because the frames are unified. Rather than emphasize the garage, I would suggest something that indicates where to find the front door.

    1. I have decided to be brave and add some lemons or limes (aka color) to the kitchen. I just have to figure out an idea for the dining table that Atticus won't tear apart. Color...I love neutrals so it will be a cute challenge. :) I wish I had more room by our front door. It is a narrow hallway that can barely fit people which is why I opted for the urns by the garage door. I am still playing with ideas...luckily the houe I want has a much larger entrance. :)

Thank you so much for your insight and help.

      Cheers~

  5. Your home looks beautiful. As we are looking for a home (not in your area, sorry) I've noticed a few things people highlight. These are just suggestions, so take what you want.
    1. Your great room has high ceilings, but the picture makes it look like they aren't highlighted. Maybe something above the entertainment center to draw your eye up?
    2. The inset ceiling in your bedroom (can't remember what that is called) could be highlighted as well. Maybe with the vertical part white?
These are just thoughts and really, I take style/design advice from you, so I may not be of great help.

  6. I think the urns with flowers outside is a great idea. Curb appeal is always a huge factor in getting people inside. I'll bet you'll sell fast.

  7. On your outside photo... I think I'd take it from a different angle so that the front door shows. The angle here looks like a giant garage with a house attached. I don't know what your front door/outside entry looks like, but I'd be sure it's clean and welcoming. If you're front door is on the plain side, or if you want to add an extra punch, consider a door bucket. A little touch like that can make a big first impression. On the inside, I love that you have used so many neutrals, as wild colors can be a real put-off -- people have a hard time seeing beyond that. I agree with other comments, though, that a splash of color here and there will go far. You can buy great faux limes and lemons from Walmart for about the same price as a real bag and won't have to worry about them molding. Flowers are great -- always go with fresh inside the house! And colorful throws and pillows are a nice touch, too.

If it's any consolation, I would buy your house if I were in the market!
