And then Friday came....and for a moment, everything clicked.
What would you do if you came across this?
And when I mean come across..I mean drive by, see it on the curb by trash cans, put the van in reverse, then get out to take pics for your blog, and then shove it in the van to get it in the garage before you wake from the lovely dream.
There he is...waiting for me and yes, he was FREE! {Why a he you ask? Because he is king size}
Fortunately, the brother of the man throwing it away said I could take it home {like that would have stopped me} and graciously helped me figure out the geometric complexities of fitting it into my Dad's van.
I just had to share my fabulous find...any suggestions on what to do with him? I need your help. My mind is spinning. Keep him as is or maybe reupholster him in a ivory velvet? I think the sheer fact of finding hin is still sinking in.
Cheers~

I happen to really like to color it is now!
ReplyDeleteSCORE! I dunno, what about something glam? Wrap him up the same way but in shiny silver? He is nice though how he looks right now...
ReplyDeleteWow! I've been wanting to buy a headboard just like that one but in grey! I've playing with the idea of making one b/c buying a new one is pricey. What a score!
ReplyDeleteWell, he is simply beautiful! What a great find!
ReplyDeleteSo many great ideas...I am dying over here. :)
ReplyDeleteCheers~

ReplyDeleteooh, lucky!
ReplyDeleteYES! that is EXACTLY how i feel all the time!! and now.. i'm envious of your new beau!! that the find of the year!! congrats!! and i love the idea of the ivory redo.. or maybe a really bold fabric choice, to make a statement in whatever lucky room he'll be staying in! see sarah richardson's site for ideas.. she always uses the best fabrics! and she's famous for headboards such as yours! :) have fun!!!
ReplyDeleteLucky gal!!! I'm like you ... I so rarely find great things at Goodwill, Habitat, etc! Instead, I just drool over other people's great finds! :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the color that it is now! With all white bedding ... Perfect! :)

oooh I would have fun with that! I would most certainly reupholster it just because I am a germaphobe. I like the velvet surprisingly but I would go a different color, unless that mustard goes with your decor. Maybe I would space out the tufting a bit with new foam and make the diamonds bigger with less buttons. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat a find! Ivory velvet sounds dreamy. I cant wait to see what you do with it.
ReplyDeleteI know just how you were feeling...my mom would score these Amazing things at garage sales but never me. Then it happened, I found my score. I am in shock over your find! The shape is gorgeous!! I can't wait to see the end result!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT. I guess good things really do come to those who -are forced to- wait!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous find! I feel the same way. I never find anything! Or, if I do, I'm far from home and in a vehicle that won't accommodate the find!
ReplyDeleteI would probably recover it. Not because it isn't awesome, but because I'm always worried about what's UNDERNEATH the awesomeness that you can't see :). I would have to take it apart a bit, check it out and then use the current covering as a pattern to reupholster. (not that I've ever reupholstered anything... but I am dying to! :))
Keep him! Upholster him in ivory... germs and memories of the 70's with the gold... what a super find! Lucky you!!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeletehe is so handsome! :) I know you'll figure out the perfect new outfit!
ReplyDeleteKeep us posted!
you sure were in the right place at the right time!

Oh. My. Goodness. Awesome find. I was at Ikea yesterday, and grey and orange is SO in! You could keep him orange and put him in a grey room (my room is grey!)
ReplyDeleteWell, how cool is that?? Lucky!
ReplyDeleteI like the ivory velvet idea a lot.
WHA??????????? Keep him as is! He's regal!
ReplyDeleteSwoon-ay!!!
Find of the year, um--no, find of the CENTURY. He is lovely beyond words, Ms. E!
ReplyDeleteWow! Wow! and Double Wow!
ReplyDeleteHe is gorgeous! Great find!
ReplyDeleteAmazing find and I love it as is. :) You could wrap it in ivory velvet though for a very different mood. It could also be turned into a magnificent fainting couch!
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, what a find!! That is so awesome!!
ReplyDeleteI feel like I am a crazy germ-a-phobe lately, so I would likely recover it also (after sanitizing it 1000 times, of course)...I think...though I kind of like it how it is.
I can't wait to see what you do with it!

ReplyDeleteThis could look seriously awesome tufted and without the nail-head trim... love the light pattern
Oh I love it! I think it makes a darling head board. Traci @ Beneath my Heart took a head board and used it for decor/towel hooks in her bathroom (I don't know how well that would work with velvet...maybe not my best idea).
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the idea of ivory velvet.
Personally, I would tell Mr. B that I got it at the store...my hubs always has such a cow when he finds out that I have been shopping at Curby's. :)
I just came across your blog and ADORE it! Love this find...I definitely would reupholster it, just so that it's "new" and "you". Can't wait to see what you do with it! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lucky find! Normally if I see something upholstered on the curb it is so nasty I wouldn't even touch it, let alone take it home! But that looks like it's in perfect condition! I actually like the funky color of it as it is, and it matches your white bedding, but it would also look great reupholstered.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I love that you took a picture of it before you loaded it in the van...such a bloggy thing to do :)
Oh. My. Gosh. I think this is the best!! My vote is to keep it as is. Orange is hot right now and it will look great with so many colors. I might get it steam cleaned. ;-)
ReplyDeleteabby
WOW! You're right...I never find all those great things...You did score! And I about swooned at the mention of ivory velvet... : )
ReplyDeleteYou are now officially a curbshopaholic too!
ReplyDeleteGreat find, and don't you love it when the people come out and help you load up their trash? ;)
Can't wait to see what you do with it!
I kind of hate you now ;) The person who threw that out must have been taking crazy pills!!! It's unbelievable! I'm loving it just as it is! Such a great find- cheers to you!
ReplyDeleteWow what a great find and to top it all off it was FREE! I agree orange is quite popular now so maybe you can just leave the way it is for right now. It looks like it is in excellent shape.
ReplyDeletelove love love love love!!! What a find!!
ReplyDeleteI kind of love it mustard...gorgeous!
Hey, add me into the circle of bliss please! I'd love to be included at the lunch table :)
What a find! I think I would have blinked a few times and pinched myself to see if it was real.
ReplyDelete...a few thanks and links to you here... http://www.anestforallseasons.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU AGAIN!!!!!
SHUT. UP. Seriously. You hit the jack pot!!! Holy cow! Ok wow I am calming down now. I personally love the color, but you could reupolster any old color you want to it and it would still be fabulous! Just give it a good cleaning (second hand fabrics kind of scare me), but I'm sure you know that, being in the medical field. CONGRATS honey!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, You made up for lost time then! It looks gorgeous! I'm jealous!
ReplyDeletei love the shape of the headboard...and...i have to say i really like the color too...!
ReplyDeleteGreat find. I would love it back in it's original color! It would be beautiful!

Extreme Personal Measures
That is amazing that you got that/found that for free! Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, that is awesome! All I tend to find on the side of road is roadkill
ReplyDeleteGreat find! It would be a lot of tufting, but I'd love it recovered. Although, I have seen some people paint fabric. Since it was free, I might look to see how much it would cost to have a pro upholsterer do it. Sometimes it's worth going that route. It is a gorgeous shape!
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Heavens! Leave him as is for now and pair him with grey and cream bedding! That is amazing! Go on with your bad self!
ReplyDeleteI love him just the way he is! Just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYou FOUND this?! Wow, so jealous! It's AMAAAAZING. I actually like it a lot as it is!
ReplyDeleteFound you from the nester :)
What a FAB find! Can't wait to see what ya did with him!
ReplyDeleteI would just get it steam cleaned and leave it be OR get it re-upholstered. Fabulous find! I would of picked it up too!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! All your waiting has been worth it. That's a big score girlfriend for your first one. Can't wait to see what you do with it though I think its wonderful as is and I would decorate the rest of my bedroom around it!
ReplyDeleteI would just get him professionally deep-cleaned and maybe paint the legs grey (love that color combo, like others said). I recently thrifted an orange velvet couch and almost reupholstered it, and I am soso glad I didn't ... great find!
