my love of baskets

As you look around my house, you will see baskets.  Big baskets...small baskets. I love them all!

But I have a few in the kitchen that have been there since I painted my cabinets {5 years ago}.

Most think they are for decoration.

They rest above my cabinets adding height, color, and texture. But they have a secret job.

Within each basket we have ziploc baggies that contain receipts, direction manuals, warranties, extra plugs, etc to our various electronics. Here is the one for our DVD player. Each basket guards and keeps the information.

You can bet you can find the ziploc baggies for these counter appliances in the basket above them.

Yes we could file them in a cabinet, but most of those are spilling with my pharmacy notes & lectures. Plus, I think this is so much cuter...and gives my baskets some responsibility {outside the realm of looking pretty}.

And yes, one basket is a snuggle box for Atticus. He has many hair tumbleweeds in his.  I am always cleaning that one out....but look at that face. How could I say no?

Cheers~

Thought this would be perfect with The Nester's Linky Party that is all about secrets to a less messy nest.

  1. How clever and a great use of that normally-wasted space! I bet we've got at least 20 baskets here.

  2. Great idea. I've started to store my manuals next to the things I use. My laundry and other basement manuals are, well, in the basement. My kitchen appliance manuals need to be moved to the kitchen, etc.etc.etc.

  6. Good idea girlie:) We keep ours in the bottom drawer of a filing cabinet in the attic. So when I need one I know where they all are. Sadly, I dont have cabinets in my kitchen to even try this:( I know...pitiful.

  7. I love it! BTW, I gotta know, how do you keep photos on your kitchen counter without getting splatters on them? Nothing in my kitchen escapes the splatters.

  9. What a great idea! We have ours stuffed in a file in one of THREE filing cabinets we have...ugh. And that would be manuals and receipts...not kitties. ; )

  18. You are not too late for a bathroom paint color...thank you for that suggestion! It's beautiful. I need to head to the store to see it in person. I didn't have the time I had hoped for today...so that project is on the back burner. Hopefully this week!!

  19. That is such a great idea! Usually because manuals can be so thick and don't store well in file cabinets. You are very clever. Thanks for linking this great idea to my linky party!
