a month of Sundays

I have changed my expectations in decorating.

I am now a firm believer in slow decorating. It is so easy in the world of blogs to be consumed with time and instant perfection. Blogging takes place in the virtual world which thrives on editing and scheduled posts {hehe...which I do do}, but in the real world...it is ok if a weekend of redesign becomes a month of Sundays.

Here are a few examples of elements I have been working on each Sunday here and there for my little boy.

This canvas is 1 of 5...and I think it will be darling when finished. Haha...the navy walls alone was a weekend all unto itself.

I waited several Sundays for this lamp to go on clearance.

And this moveable night light? Well, I just thought the picture was uber cute.

Now that I have allowed myself not to have a deadline when working on my home, I am falling in love with the process of selection, the art of deal making {with myself & the Sunday ads}, and not stressing out when a setback is going to throw off my post date.

Thurgood's room is slowly getting there, but the best part is...we are both loving every new element that makes his room his and even more special.

The progress is the process.

So...What have you done with a month of Sundays?

Cheers~

  1. I think taking your time to decorate is a wise choice otherwise you end up with a pile of things you don't really love. Im sure your little guy enjoys seeing new things turn up from time to time.
    Have a lovely week!!

  2. So true! It is so easy to compare ones self to other bloggers and feel the pressure to put it all together (notice I don't have any after pictures of my house and have embraced the "during" pictures as I slowly add). Plus, whenever I make rash decorating decisions, I always hate them. I like for my space to grow along side of my ideas! Way to hit the nail on the head!

  3. AMEN! When I first started blogging, I tried to knock out something big every weekend. With a full time job and daily minutia of chores already to deal with, I totally burned myself out. I'm way slower these days, but also way happier. It's kind of silly to force yourself to stress and labor over a hobby, you know?

That octopus is absolutely adorable!! You are so talented! What's it like to be amazing at everything?

  5. I was going to say AMEN, too! Give yourself as much time as you need. Unnecessary deadlines are just that: unnecessary! I've got a list a mile long of things I want/need to do with my house, but I don't have deadlines set. Who needs the stress?! Life is too short!

Thanks for your post, by the way. The doctor checked Olivia's ears and belly and everything is okay. Maybe some teething. Maybe a runny nose, but on with sleep training!

I anxiously await the reveal of this precious room.

  8. This is why I heart you. I'm also of the mantra that slow & steady wins the race. There are SO many blogs out there that rush decor......it's like a freaking competition to have the best house. Makes me a little sad, you know? It's all about the labor of love and pride in decor.

Little T is a lucky little man!

  9. This is so true! And the slower projects are generally lovelier in the end . . . sometimes it just takes a room awhile to come together! At least, it does for the rooms in my house!

  10. So often, I find myself impatient with the process. Then I stop and think and realize that I LOVE projects-- It's my impatience that gets in the way. We used to work into the wee hours of the morning when we were doing projects. No wonder we were burnt out before we got done!

Now, we take our time. It really is fun! :)

I can't wait to see the end results!
